This Will Secure a place of permanence at the Wesley Bolin Plaza befitting the WW II Tuskegee Airmen Red Tails Heroes, between the two restored Battle Ships Barrels that symbolize the beginning and the end of the United States’ participation in WW II. The destruction of the USS Arizona by the surprise attack by Japan December 7, 1941, drew American forces into the war. Japan officially surrendered on 2 September 1945, aboard the USS Missouri anchored in Tokyo Bay. Since WW II, the Tuskegee Airmen have partnered faithfully with the Arizona military, public officials, civic, education and religious institutions. Due to their accomplishments, contributions and sacrifices, Arizona is the only State to have set aside a day to remember these great patriots; the Fourth Thursday in March.
